The Haddonfield 65 Club Golf is a men’s league open to 65 Club
members and male guests, non-members and non-Haddonfield residents. We play eighteen
holes at nine different courses in the local area from the first Wednesday in
April to the second Wednesday in November. Tee time for April and November is
at 8:30 A.M. Tee Times for May through October is at 8:00 A.M. Due to the
distance and course scheduling some tee times are at 8:30 A.M. If you need to
play only 9 holes due to medical condition, doctor’s appointment, summer heat, etc.,
I will accommodate you accordingly, let your caller know your request. Most
courses do not have a nine-hole discount in the AM. If you have a guest you
would like to invite to play in an outing please let your caller know the name
of the guest.
Our
objective is to play low key golf once a week, have fun, and enjoy the
camaraderie of our fellow golfers. In the total time, I have been doing the
schedule I have not had anyone tell me that they do not want to play with certain
individual. Cost to play is what the golf course charges at the senior rate. Club
members pay $20.00 dues a year to the 65 Club and for non-member who play we
request a donation to the club in any amount, which is not mandatory.
We have two
major rules: Be at the course a half hour before the announced first tee time
for modified shot-gun starts or a half hour before your group’s Tee Time. If
possible try to keep a pace of play that completes a round in about four hours.
We play but not obligated to do so leaving the flag in the hole during putting.
This has saved us up to 35 minutes per round. When double par is reached before
holing out you are to pick up your ball and continue onto the next hole. It
should be noted that the pace of play, is keeping up with the group in front of
you. If your group is on the Tee Box and the group in front of you is walking
off the green or beyond that point, you need to pick up the pace. Since most of
our players only play once a week on Wednesday, we permit a Breakfast Ball from
the first tee box that you start on, this is not counted as a Mulligan. For
safety reason and not to damage your clubs, without a stroke penalty, you may
take relief from tree roots, etc. Please keep in mind this is not to give you
an advantage toward the hole
Some
courses permit us to have a modified shotgun start. This type of start will have
two or three groups start on a hole one, two groups on hole 18 and one or two
groups on hole 17, etc. I will notify everyone when we are scheduled to have a
shotgun start. This will require everyone to be at the course a half hour
before the first Tee Time. On many outings, the Pro has permitted us to tee off
15 minutes prior to our scheduled Tee Times, another reason to be early.
Contacting
of players is done by Callers on a weekly basis. The arrangement and method by
how a caller contacts the players on their list is set-up by the caller. The contact
is to be completed by 5:00 PM on the Sunday prior to Wednesday play. The
contact person will contact me by 9:00 PM on that Sunday. We have scheduled
eight tee times per course for 32 players for the year. On Monday morning, I
contact the course with the number of players who have signed up and adjust the
number of tee times required for our group, surrendering the tee times we do
not need. Unfortunately, this sometimes limit any additional player who may
have signed up late or have changed their mind to play. If you are in doubt if
you are playing it is better to sign-up, then taking a chance that there will
be an opening for a late sign-in. Then on Tuesday morning I will e-mail the pro
at the course with the line-up. Should we have more than 32 sign-ups to play
and the course is unable to accommodate the extra players, those who are 65
Club Members and those who have played regularly will be scheduled accordingly.
Hopefully this does not happen.
We have
three tournaments a year. Two are Best Ball, and one is our Master’s
Tournament. The first Fun Best Ball is comprised of players who normally have
not played together and are put together without consideration of handicaps.
The second one is the Master’s Best Ball Tournament where player are arranged
so that the groups are equal in the average handicaps. In the Master’s Tournament,
each player plays his best golf. Play is without any give-me, mulligan or
relief from roots, etc., without a penalty stoke.
Handicaps are
based on a formula that is about six strokes below a PGA or similar handicap system. Built into the formula are
the mulligan and give-me factors and even the occasional breakfast ball. Should
you wish not to take mulligans or a give-me during our outings, because you
have a PGA or similar handicap, and want to keep your score true, that is your
choice. Our handicaps cannot be used for
official entry into Tournaments, etc., outside of our club. If you are a
first-time player with the 65 Club, handicaps are tallied for an individual
after three outings. For all others, the handicaps are carried over from last
year and are adjusted at least once or twice a month.
At the end of a round one person in your group should either
give me your score card, with pars circled and Birdie’s double circled. Should
I not be available to receive your card at the course, the score card should be
texted or e-mailed to me the same day.
The above
information is meant as a guide line so that everyone is one the same page with
the same objectives.
Our
schedule is posted on haddon65clubgolf.blogspot.com. Anyone who wishes to
play for the first time must contact Mike Underwood at munder@comcast.net on or before the Sunday before the
Wednesday you want to play.
